Salman blasts critics for bad Veer review

Salman Khan is not taking the bad reviews of Veer by critics with a pinch of salt, instead he claims that the critics have been paid to write negatively about his magnum opus Veer.

Salman wrote on a social networking site, “I tell you critics are paid and they can’t be a better judge than audience. So, please go and watch it. I boycott critics and request you not to go by the reviews and they are just good for nothing. I promise- Veer won’t disappoint you.”

Katrina wants to win a National Award

After Priyanka Chopra won the best actress National Award for Fashion, Katrina Kaif is also very keen on winning the National honor for her performance in her upcoming flick Rajneeti where she plays a role of a politician.

A source says, Katrina is very keen on winning a National Award. She doesn’t seem to hanker after the rest of the awards, but yes, on the sets she often mentioned that winning the National Award would mean the world to her.”

Katrina apparently asked Prakash Jha to give her some strong dramatic scenes in the movie with National award winner Ajay Devgan.

However Katrina slams the rumors, she says, “The script of the film is exactly as it was. And I certainly don’t think I’m winning the National Award.”

Last year Priyanka Chopra sweeped all the awards for her hard hitting performance in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, this year she has bagged her first ever National award for the same movie.

Talking about the award from America, Priyanka said, “I will give full credit to Madhur (Madhur Bhandarkar) and the crew. I am really honoured. National Award is the biggest honour of our country and I am really honoured to have received one.”

Salman: “It’s not that we are husband and wife, you know… I’m not married to him. He’s an actor, I’m an actor, if there’s a film on the level of Karan and Arjun – definitely.

Koel: Recently you were both seen at Aamir’s premiere together. Was it awkward ?

Salman: No, not awkward. Maybe for him, not for me.

Koel: SRK says you are two parallel people running at different speeds (that’s why the two will never meet). Do you buy into that?

She says, “We don’t owe an explanation on our decision on Pakistani players. The reasons for dropping are understandable in the current scenario. We would like the media and the people to react to such situations more sensibly.”

“We wanted the players to be in the country and at that point of time we were more worried about security. We did not want to take onus for their security.”

Veer Movie Review

Veer could be called a magnanimous, gigantic, collossal bore! Rating 2.5/5

The story of Veer is set in the year 1857, where Veer(Salman Khan) plays a Pindari warrior who not only aims to win back his tribes lost glory but also their homeland from the claws of the evil king of Madhavgardh played by Jackie Shroff. In the process,Veer falls in love with beautiful Yashodhara who happens to be the deceitful kings daughter. Veer wins it all – glory and land of his tribe, avenges the death of his tribesmen from the evil king, mows down an entire battalion of the British army, wins the hand of Princess, and emerges successful in lighting the fire of patriotism and revolution in the people of Madhavgardh, the Pindaris and hence the Indians.

Salman Khan has been credited for the story of the film Veer. Unfortunately, Salman’s story has a lot of loopholes, poor characterization, and disappointing treatment above all. The good thing about the story is that it bought to attention the legend of the Pindari Warriors who were wiped off in a campaign led by General Hastings. The sad thing about the story is that justice was not done to a good theme.

Now, leaving all the critical and technical aspects, for the average cinegoer – Veer has very little to offer. Salman as Veer has put in a lot of effort to get the look and feel of the character right. Full marks to him. Although sometimes the Gladiator-cum-Achilles warrior-look and costumes looked rather odd in the Indian context. Sohail Khan is reduced to mere loony side kick who annoys more than anything else. Zarine Khan looks pretty but plastic, I dont see why they chose her over Katrina when she can’t even speak her own dialogues in the film. Much hyped- Lisa Lazarus of UK, is also a forgettable face in the firang crowd of the film.

Some dialogues were too over-the-top, the regular jingoistic fare of Anil Sharma movies (Gadar, Here etc.), but public cheered to it in the cinema hall… surprisingly. Some action sequences also won applause like when Salman breaks a sword with one hand as if it was a cookie! On the love story remains another obscure domain of the film – visible but unclear!

So… Even if you consider this as a ‘epic love story of a warrior’ and not a ‘historical docu-drama’, I’d still say ‘Disappointing’. (Wish there was somebody to pay me to say this )

My Verdict: Strictly for Salman Khan fans! Others can avoid!

Director Karan Johar, says, “Normally, Shah Rukh doesn’t wear accessories but since the watch and wedding ring is part of the narrative and his character in the film, he agreed to wear both. It’s his own wedding ring that he’s wearing for a certain period of time.”

Therefore it needed to be of 1920s at least.The watch brand I endorse had their old pieces from those years in their museum and kindly agreed to give it to us.It’s one thing that is so sacred to him and kind of depicts his love, marriage and relationships.”

Salman: Zarine doesn’t look like Katrina

Salman says, “Except being fair and having a sharp nose, I don’t see any similarity between them. Give god that credit for not making two people identical.”

Talking about Zarine’s character in the flick, Salman says, Throwing light on how his co-star Zarine Khan joined the cast, Salman said: “The film is of a different genre, so we needed a young fresh look. More than that we needed somebody with a yesteryear look. How our grandmothers and great grandmothers used to look, we needed someone like them.

“Just two weeks were left to start the film and we didn’t have anyone who would fit the role. We were searching left, right and centre and met her by coincidence on the set of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Yuvvraaj’.”

In Ishqiya everything from the way I wore my saree to the way I looked at men, was alien to me. The role exposed me to a new way of interpreting a liberated woman. My character in Ishqiya may not know about feminism. But she’s truly liberated.”

The whole Bachchan family is gracious, Bachchan saab is an amazing gentleman, Abhishek is just like his father he is lovely very civil and nice.

Aamir Khan’s infamous dog Shah Rukh has left his home and Aamir is not associated with him anymore. Shah Rukh’s caretaker shifted out of Aamir’s house along with the dog.

A close friend of Aamir says,“Since the old caretaker is out, there was no point keeping the dog Shah Rukh. The dog had to go with the caretaker.”

Aamir Khan’s war with SRK started when he blogged about the dog last year, Aamir had written, “Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for?” and “Shah Rukh is smelling too much, I think he needs a bath.”

Aamir also apologized to SRK’s kids for hurting their sentiments, Aamir had said, “I have only apologized to Shah Rukh Khan’s kids because they may have felt bad about it.”

Shahid removes his kissing scene from Chance Pe Dance

There was a smooching scene in Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza starrer Chance Pe Dance, however after Shahid’s repeated requests with director Ken Ghosh the scene has been removed.

A source says, “Yes, there was a kissing scene in the film along with a love-making scene. However Shahid thought that it wouldn’t be good for his image with the kids. He also felt it would put off people from coming to the cinema hall with their kids, and he did not want that to happen. So he spoke to Ken Ghosh (the director) and insisted the scene be removed from the film. Though Ken wasn’t very keen about the idea since the shot had taken a lot of effort, he finally understood Shahid’s point of view — even Ken loved the idea of the film not having an A certificate. The scene has been removed.”

When Ken was contacted to confirm the news, he said, “My film is for teenagers, for children and for families. It’s a wholesome entertainer with humour, emotional moments and lots of fun. It’s got great music and fantastic dancing — and it’s got a U certificate. Need I say more?”

It would be good to see a movie without kissing and lovemaking scenes after a long time.

You have been voted as the sexiest man alive. How does it feel?

There is nothing sexy about me. I have a long nose; big cheeks, long face, broad forehead and my legs are too thin. So I am anything but sexy. But I believe that handsome is as a handsome does. See, in my field you have to blank out all these things. I am an actor and the sole reason of my being is to act and give good performances. I try not to get carried away with such things.

Your towel-dropping scene in ‘Saawariya’ generated a huge controversy. So were you wearing anything under the towel?

No. I was absolutely naked. And fortunately or unfortunately the censor board edited it. Mr Bhansali had a concept that when a young man would fall inlove he would act in a certain way. And the towel dropping act was a guy’s private moment.

So did you drop the towel when you fell in love for the first time?

No. There is nothing like that or else I will have to drop the towel everyday. I fall in love everyday.

So, are you single?

See if I am not married it means that I am single. But if you ask me whether I am in a relationship or not then I feel that I am not a reality TV star and my personal life is something I don’t want to talk about. I am an actor and I would like if people would only talk about my films and my work.

But have you and Deepika broken up?

If I will say ‘yes’ to you, then tomorrow ten other people will ask me ten other odd questions. Thousand of stories will be generated and that will just create more misunderstanding. So I would like to stay clear of all this for now.

Ajay Devgn : Kajol, Nysa, my parents, cousins, sister and her family and I will all be at our Karjat farm house. We’re planning an extended holiday. I start work only from January 2, so does Kajol. So in the meantime it is going to be a huge, long party.

Amrita Rao : I wonder what 2010 has in store for me… Resolutions sound nice to the ears but adhering to them is a matter of destiny!

Amisha Patel : I have a show in Dubai. I will be working and then I will take a holiday. I always like working on New Year’s day because I feel you will then be working throughout!

Ritesh Deshmukh : Friends and I are contemplating how to ring in the New Year. It’s not compulsory to indulge in anything fancy, even a quiet time with good friends does the trick!

Arshad Warsi : I am looking forward to three releases in 2010. Will start Raju’s film next year so it’s going to be an eventful year. I haven’t a plan for New Year as yet. I’ll be with family and friends.

Irrfan Khan : On every festive occasion I try to visit my mother in Jaipur. But for the New Year I made plans to be home. Beyond the New Year I’ve made no plans. I’ve noticed every time I’ve chalked out a plan for myself, life has humbled me. I leave all my plans to God.

Mughda Godse : I am dancing at a live performance in Delhi tonight and will spend New Year with family and close friends. I’ve a horror film tentatively titled Help coming up for release. Sushmita Sen : I normally travel overseas. However, Alisah, my younger daughter, can’t travel abroad yet because she doesn’t have a passport. Hence it will have to be a beach resort in India.

Katrina Kaif : I couldn’t hope for a better New Year’s day. I’m in London with my sisters and brother having the time of my life. We have lots of fun when we all are together. After I started working I have hardly seen my siblings. So meeting them is always special and a festival to mark our meeting, is the cherry on the cake. My mother forced me to leave my cell phone behind in Mumbai, so I’m almost cut off fromBollywood. What hopes for 2010? Lots of hard work and hopefully hits.

Shah Rukh Khan : I will be at home (Mannat) with Gauri, Aryan, Suhana and a couple of close friends like Karan Johar. Being with close family is the one thing I truly cherish.

Akshay Kumar : Tina, Aarav and I are in Goa. I normally take a vacation from December 29 to January 2 because it includes a double celebration. Tina’s birthday on December 29, and then the New Year’s eve party. Honestly what can be better than spending time with your loved ones? This is a commitment I have made to my family.

Deepika Padukone : I will be home in Bangalore with my parents and my sister. Then I go to Goa to wrap up the last fortnight on Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film. Every year I hope that the following year is as exciting as the previous year and I’m very happy with the way my professional life is going. Hope 2010 is the same.

Ranbir Kapoor : I start shooting for Siddharth Anand’s film in the US from January 2. Since I didn’t wish to be in an aircraft on New Year’s eve, I left India on December 27. My entire family is in Dubai as tomorrow is my paternal grandmother’s birthday and the family is treating her to a one-week holiday there. I wish I could join them!

Kareena Kapoor : Saif and I are in England. We are catching up with Saif’s Oxford batchmates and their spouses. I’m dying to wear my fur coat and sniff the English chill… looking and feeling every inch a diva. We work hard all the year around to make this happen, so let me enjoy myself.

Abhishek Bachchan is all set to make his debut on reality TV shows with National Bingo Night that will be aired on Colors channel.

Abhishek talking about the game show says, “It’s a fun-filled show where the whole country will be my guest without applying any brains or answer any difficult questions. This is such a chilled out concept and something that has never been done before in India. The sheer simplicity of the idea and the fact that this show is highly interactive is what attracted me to it.”

“The idea here is that it’s a show which is to be enjoyed by relaxing. That’s why we came up with the concept of Aaram Classes… we want people to chill out and play this game. There’s no stress, no tension involved at all. So tune in to learn ‘aaram’ and get ready for Bingo.”

Delhi-6 has a new twist

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is releasing his movie Delhi-6 all over again but with a different ending – Abhishek will die in the movie.

A source says, Abhishek and Rakeysh had many arguments on the subject. The producers felt that audiences will react adversely to Abhishek’s character dying. Although Rakeysh was unhappy with it, he shot the alternate ending.”

Rakeysh says, “I made a mistake. I should have gone with my original script with the tragic ending. Going by the reactions I got after I showed the newly edited film at the Venice Film Festival in September, I am sure this is the right version of Delhi-6.”

Well this is a more tragic and real ending for Delhi 6.
